HELP THE AGED, DANGEROUS PAVEMENTS CAMPAIGN

Dangerous pavements are a major cause of falls amongst older people. Research by Help the Aged in Wales has revealed that 53% of people aged over 65 avoid using routes that may have faulty or damaged pavements.  For those with mobility problems, this represents a significant barrier to leading an independent life.

Help the Aged in Wales are encouraging members of the public to report any dangerous pavements to the Highway Department of their local authority.

Reporting a dangerous pavement couldn’t be easier, simply complete a Help the Aged bilingual reporting postcard and send one half FREEPOST to the local authority and the other to Help the Aged in Wales office.

The postcard is available to download from Help the Aged website www.helptheaged.org.uk

A fall for a younger person may lead to embarrassment or even a broken bone, but for an older person it can lead to serious injury, months of recovery and sometimes even death.

Please help us to prevent falls.

For further information on the campaign please contact Tara Melton, Campaigns Officer on 029 20 346 550 or email tara.melton@helptheaged.org.uk
